USBAR Plan v2

I called for a retention offer, and was only offered 1,000 points or $10. Meh!

I booked a flight for the Points & Miles Conference in October using the USBAR Travel Portal. American was significantly cheaper than United by hundreds of dollars, so I booked American. I really wanted to book United to use my Club passes from my United cards, and was planning to use my Platinum $200 Airline credit to upgrade my seat. But the price difference was so huge that I stuck with American.

Turns out that cost difference is moot because…

Now my plan is to wait for my $325 USBAR travel credit to post, cancel the flight and downgrade the card. I read on Reddit that they are not clawing back the $325 credit, so that’s a win. I’ve already booked a United flight using points, and will use my Platinum credit to upgrade my seats.

That $325 will offset the difference between 3 points per dollar on the USBAR card vs. 1.5 Ultimate Rewards points on the Freedom unlimited for many years.
