P2 & P3
In the Points & Miles world, “P1” refers to Player 1, who is the primary Points & Miles enthusiast. In my universe, that’s me. “P2” refers to Player 2, who is usually a willing accomplice, but their level of engagement varies. Some P2’s just enjoy the luxury travel, but don’t engage in any of the points-earning or burning activities. My P2, my spouse, helps by using the right credit card for purchases and using Rakuten. But I do all of the Points management and travel bookings.
Every quarter, I give P2 a set of credit cards to use for various types of establishments. Usually, restaurants & grocery stores use the same card- either the Amex Gold (4x on both) or the Citi Strata Premier (3X on both). The exception is when the Chase Freedom has restaurants (common) or grocery stores (uncommon) as their 5X quarterly category.
Then there is a catch-all card. That’s usually the card we are working on a sign-up bonus for. But this past quarter, she’s been using our Bilt card, which is 2X everywhere, and 3X with the Accelerator. See my post on the Bilt card here.
P3 is our adult daughter who still lives with us. I’ve had mixed success getting her approved for anything, but just recently she was approved for a Chase Sapphire card! Hopefully, this is the beginning of her card churning career!
Having multiple “Players” makes the credit card churning game a lot more lucrative. Not only can multiple people apply and receive sign-up bonuses, but referring each other adds to our stash of points.
I plan to refer P3 for the Chase Ink Unlimited Business card (my referral link), and I’ll get the 40K points referral bonus. The Unlimited is a great card because it doesn’t have an annual fee and earns 1.5 Ultimate Rewards points for every purchase. It is often our catch-all card.
It’s really hard to hold off on that application, but I’m going to try to exercise some restraint until she earns the Sapphire Preferred’s bonus and gets 3 on-time payments onto her record.
Chase has limited the ability to get Ink referral bonuses by only allowing new Chase business customers to be eligible. In the past, P2 and I would refer each other for many Ink cards, but those days are over. I’m lucky to have a P3!!
